Former family butcher Mervyn Harris passed away last Friday. The funeral will take place on Wednesday 12 October at 14:00 at St Leonard's Church, Market Square.
The corner of Mill Street and Acre End Street, in the days before the current baker's and the old estate agent's, was a regular meeting place for local residents - known to all as Harris's Corner after family butchers KF and M Harris.
Mervyn Harris had succeeded his father Fred in the firm and used to recall his days there with pride. Like the local doctor, the family was an early adopter of telephones (Eynsham 219) and quick off the mark with advertising too, witness the pencil and packaging below:
Mr Harris's son (also known as Mervyn) at Abbey Properties has been hoping for some time to arrange for a plaque in his family's honour at the corner of Mill Street.
In the meantime, your memories are invited - please ask around if it helps and get in touch.
